Modern People Management Essay - 825 Words

Modern People Management (Essay Sample) Content: MODERN PEOPLE MANAGEMENTManagement of people in the modern organisation is essential for accomplishing aims and objectives as a group and that could not be done by an individual thus it is essential for coordination of individual efforts CITATION Olu08 \l 2057 (Olum, 2008). Hawthorne studies done by Elton Mayo was conducted to evaluate the working condition people are exposed at work and how it affects productivity (essay 2013).The studyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬s findings formed the basis of people management in modern organisations and other related theories formulated and are being used at the moment. Although the studies had advantageous finding some of the scholars have criticized the studies and disapproved the experiment. The studyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬s findings have influenced the way management of people is being done in the modern organisation. CITATION Jef12 \l 2057 (muldoon, 2012)From the studyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬s findings, people work best when they are in a group i.e. work is a gro up activity. The essence of group participation in achieving a target goal is more advantageous than working individually. For instance in a packaging area in an industry, having a group of workers interacting in one packaging area will be more efficient compared to individual people doing the work isolated. This has since been applied in most of the organisations where each activity is assigned to a group with a leader rather than to individuals. CITATION Nic11 \l 2057 (Torka, 2011)The need for worker security, recognition and a sense of belonging is more significant in workers morale and productivity as compared to the physical conditions under which s/he works. This suggest that the management should value the welfare of the workers rather focusing on material motivation such salary increment as a way of improving the production. For instance workers with family, the organisation should be concern with their welfare and how they are doing. CITATION Nic11 \l 2057 (Torka, 2011)H awthorne studyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬s findings have to some extend undermined some of the components of people management. Training is a core component in any organisation to improve on productivity CITATION Gun11 \l 2057 (Gunn, 2011)but due to the findings of Elton, the importance and relevance of organisation training is being overlooked on the basis that applying Elton work will improve production with or without training. For instance when the production in an organisation goes up the trainer wonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬t be credited for his effort instead the outcome will be assumed to be the positive impact of Hawthorne effect. (Accel team, 2013)A workers complain is not always an objective of fact enumeration but rather a manifestation of workers status or position distursturbances.in management perspective the complains from the workers are to be handled with care and caution as to get to the bottom of it, solve and clear the issue. For instance a worker could be complaining always at work but the real problem s/he has is back at home or relationship among the workers and not the type of work s/he doing. Without critical looking at situation and applying Hawthorne effect the manager could solve such an issues and will in long run affect the organisation. (Accel team, 2013)Group collaboration and interaction in an organisation must be well planned and developed according to the findings of Elton. If people work together in harmony in an organisation, the workers relationship will reach a cohesion state that cannot be broken or disrupted by adaptive society. The change by an individual from established home society to an adoptive society at the work place resulting from adoption of new techniques tends to disrupt the smooth social organisation. This has influenced modern organisation to adopt measures that reduces the disruption process CITATION Jef12 \l 2057 (muldoon, 2012). For instance young ladies in the family are used to associate with their family discuss issues as well as do work freely without a lot of organisation or being watched on. When they go to work the social environment changes abruptly. They have to follow a certain code of organisation while working and also being watched by the supervisor. This create a social barrier in the organisation. In the present time some organisation have promoted interaction and a friendlier working environment that overcome the issue. The management of people welfare should look at both the social demand of the worker both internal and external to the organisation.
